The State plan will allow the health care enterprise to negotiate drug prices with the pharmaceutical companies. Some elected officials have suggested price transparency through government regulation will control the cost of prescription drugs. However, transparency may not matter especially in emergency situations and even in nonemergent situations shopping around for the best price isn’t helpful if your private commercial health insurance plan uses a formulary that does not include the best drug for you.
